Rejected Names for Church Wi-Fi Networks

It appears that the Church will be changing the name of the Wi-Fi networks in meetinghouses from “LDSAccess” to “Liahona.” I assume this is part of President Nelson’s push to not use abbreviations for the name of the Church. Would it be too impertinent of me to point out that “Liahona” doesn’t contain Jesus’s name either?

In any case, I’m sure that the powers that be considered many possible names before settling on the one they chose. Here are some of my guesses for what some of their rejected candidates might have been.

I also find it interesting to see what non-obvious sites are blocked access to when using a Liahona connection whilst at church. Ya know, instead of listening to a recently returned missionary sharing her “interesting” story about how a curling iron burned her hair.

  2. I think it was not about including the name of the Saviour it was about not having the abbreviation LDS. ?

  3. Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t give the password only to priesthood office holders, who can then enter it for women. Women enjoy all the blessings of the internet, just like men, but they access it through their husbands, brothers, sons, ministering brothers, etc. Women (and children) are now allowed to witness men entering the password, but they cannot enter it themselves. Women browse the internet with delegated passwords. In the past, women were able to use library cards, but only by the power of faith.
