Just for Fun, Some Questions

It’s been a difficult, heavy couple of weeks, both in the church and in the world. I think it’s important to be talking about the issues that are getting talked about. But just for a break, I’m posting a survey of completely random questions.

1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?

3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?

4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?

5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?

6) What was the last TV show you watched?

7) What is your favorite month?

8) What blogs do you read the most?

9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?

10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else?

11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

    (4) I deactivated my account because I can’t bear the news right now, but I’ll be drawn back.

    4) Yes. I’m a maniac. Sometimes I post multiple times a day. I’m amazed I still have friends.

    5) I think RS, when done well, has the best discussions, because people will talk about how their faith impacts their lives, and I love hearing that.

    6) The 100. Before that, re-watching Friday Night Lights, which I love.

    7) October, because the weather is gorgeous.

    8) ZD, of course, and BCC.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post? Yes. Constantly.

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood? I’m in Primary and like Sr Primary best. You can expect more from them.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched? The Walking Dead. It’s waaaay too intense for me so I’m watching it in 5 minute increments.

    7) What is your favorite month? October. It’s just gorgeous.

    8) What blogs do you read the most? ZD, BCC, FMH, T&S, W&T, WWE

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get? No pets. I’d love to have a dog someday. A big Rottweiler, or something. I’d name it Larry.

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else? I wish I had my own helicopter, but I think my neighbors would complain. That is the only thing stopping me.

    10) transporter please (or road trip in the real world)
    11) Blueberry Morning Crunch (before they changed the recipe a few years ago)

  11. 1) Plain sweet cream from cold stone. For years I got mix-ins because I didn’t want to go outside what was expected of me (and they were free!) I even had nightmares that if I didn’t get a mix-in, doom and gloom would ensue. When I finally worked up the courage, it was the best day of my life!
    2) Mouse.
    3) 10:00/10:00 – I don’t function well without my sleep.
    4) Yes. Almost never post on my own wall. I occasionally comment on other posts. I mostly Facebook stalk.
    5) Sunday School – if I can count sitting in the hall and chatting with other members who avoid Sunday School for the same reasons I do. Otherwise, Relief Society.
    6) I’m currently watching Doc McStuffins with my sick daughter. Before that, Brooklyn 99.
    7) October
    8) BCC, W&T, ZD, T&S
    9) I have about 30 fish. My husband occasionally names them when he thinks of a funny name but none of them stick.
    10) I’m with Eve. Sedated and shipped.
    11) I don’t really enjoy breakfast cereal, but when I’m pregnant I crave Wafflecrisp.

  12. 1) Pistachio Almond – preferably Blue Bell
    2) Depends on which computer I’m using.
    3) 10-11; 12-1. It’s a problem.
    4) Yes; once or twice a week. I’m more of commenter than a poster.
    5) I like second and third hour, but only because I’m a Primary teacher. I’m not a huge fan of Relief Society and my ward’s Gospel Doctrine class gets really weird.
    6) Doctor Who
    7) December. I love Christmas decorations and music.
    8) FMH, BCC, ZD, Exponent
    9) I have a cat named Tardis.
    10) I love trains. When I was at BYU, I took the train to Colorado all the time. It was the best.
    11) Cheerios, just the plain kind. I have celiac disease, so I’m ecstatic that I can eat that again.

  13. What a good idea.

    1) I don’t believe in favorites! 😉 Right now I’m all about the lighter flavors, peppermint, coconut, pistachio, with a little chocolate thrown in (because chocolate is life).
    2) Both. Touchpad at home, mouse at work.
    3) When I’m working I HAVE to be in bed by 8PM. I generally fall asleep before 11 (it takes me FOREVER to fall asleep).
    4) Facebook is the devil. I practically never on it.
    5) If I’m the teacher then Sunday School is my favorite. Otherwise Sacrament.
    6) South Park re-run. I know.
    7) I’m a big fan of October. And June. And sometimes December. Remember what I said about favorites?
    8) Depends. I’m on tumblr all the time, but I don’t really consider that blogging. Currently reading a lot on the Bloggernacle, but that ebbs and flows. So right now I’d say ZD (ha!), Rational Faiths, and Flunking Sainthood.
    9) I have a dog. His name is Scrappy. He is the greatest dog in the history of dogs.
    10) All of the above. I love traveling. Though those long plane flights are the worst.
    11) I still love Kix. A lot. I’m also big on muesli, Cheerios, and hot grain cereals like oatmeal or Cream of Wheat.

  14. 1) Ice cream: Something with chocolate in it. I don’t know. I don’t like ice cream all that much.
    2) Mouse or touchpad: Mouse. I’m bewildered by touchpads still.
    3) Time to go to bed: Midnight. I usually get pretty close to that. Except on weekends, when I’m awful. Having 1pm church doesn’t help. 🙂
    4) Facebook: Yes. I post every few days. I “like” and comment every few minutes. I’m an addict.
    5) Best church meeting: I feel like this varies all over the place. In my ward now, probably for the first time ever, I might like elders quorum the best because I have some friends in there and we sometimes have interesting and fun discussions.
    6) TV show: Sunday Night Football (Perhaps the best show on TV.) I watch few TV shows with any regularity. Mostly I just sample episodes here and there, which means I watch more comedies than shows with a sustained story arc.
    7) Favorite month: I love Christmas and the holidays in general, but I hate short days and early sunsets, so I might have to say June just because it’s so light.
    8) Blogs: ZD, fMh, BCC, Exponent, W&T, T&S, FEMWOC, Rational Faiths. I’m a Bloggernacle junkie.
    9) Pet: No. My wife and kids have a dog, but I’m not really a fan.
    10) Travel: I’m with Eve. I just want to get there. Can I travel by Star Trek transporter?
    11) Breakfast cereal: I don’t believe in breakfast cereal. I eat leftovers for breakfast whenever possible.

  15. 11. Jordan’s Country Crisp, I like to mix the Raspberry with the Chocolate, half and half.

I’m guessing that question was added later?

  16. .

    1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

The most exciting one I’ve had recently was an orange/szechuan pepper made by your friend and mine, Recession Cone.

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?

    Work: mouse. Home: touchpad.

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?

    10ish. 12ish.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?

    Yes. And yes.

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?

Hmm. Depends a lot on the criteria. Should be sacrament. Let’s work on that.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched?

    I think Bob’s Burgers?

    7) What is your favorite month?

    Gah. Months.

    8) What blogs do you read the most?

Don’t worry. You’re top five. Probably top four? My #1 is A Motley Vision, though it’s not updated as often as some of my other regulars.

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?

    No. Please no.

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else?

Is it travel for the sake of travel? Probably train. To just get somewhere? Depends how far. Can I just walk?

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Probably whatever the kids just finished.

  17. Yep, Hedgehog–I thought the question was in my first draft, but it disappeared, so I re-added it. Point to you for responding so quickly!

    Ziff,

“Breakfast cereal: I don’t believe in breakfast cereal. I eat leftovers for breakfast whenever possible.”

Such as cold pizza. It makes me shudder.

    nrc42,

“I love trains. When I was at BYU, I took the train to Colorado all the time. It was the best.”

Awesome! You’re definitely on my wavelength.

  18. 1) Cookie dough.

    2) Touchpad at home, mouse at work.

    3) 10-10:30 p.m. (for both).

    4) Yes. I don’t often post on my own wall, but I like to see what my friends are up to.

    5) When I’m teaching, Sunday School, natch… Otherwwise sacrament (because we get to sing.)

    6) The Ultimate Fighter.

    7) December.

    8) The main blogs listed on Mormon Archipelago.

    9) A black female cat named Blueberry.

    10) Car. I love a road trip.

    11) That’s a toughie. Probably maple brown sugar Frosted Miniwheats.

  19. 1) Rocky Road
    2) Mouse at work, touchpad at home.
    3) 10/10:30, 10/10:30
    4) Yes, probably 1-2 statuses a day, 3-4 links.
    5) RS/YW
    6) Veronica Mars
    7) Any of them minus January
    8) ZD, Exponent, Design Mom
    9) I would get 2 cats and name them “Foo” and “Bar.” I have to wait until my husband dies or we divorce or something like that because he claims allergies.
    10) By bike. Why was that not one of the options?! Car culture at its finest… 😉
    11) Corn Pops.

  20. 1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

    Bruster’s Peanut Butter Buckeye

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?

    Work: mouse. Home: touchpad.

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?

    10:30. 11:30.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?

Yes. I joined several years ago when I was trying to locate my daughter and she wasn’t answering my texts. I almost never post and rarely comment. Mostly I just use FB to follow progressive Mormonism. If I get a friend request from someone who is not mutual friends with the ZDs, I decline it, even if it’s a relative (or especially if it’s a relative?).

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?

Priesthood, unless I’m teaching Sunday School. I like the more applied aspects of the gospel. Before having twins, I liked the sacrament part of sacrament meeting a lot. Now the spiritual aspects of the sacrament are typically overwhelmed by the cage-match aspects of the sacrament.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched?

    Homeland

    7) What is your favorite month?

Probably no favorite. I like spring and fall, but Christmas too. I like them all, I guess, except perhaps January and February.

    8) What blogs do you read the most?

ZD and BCC (especially the comments). I also like Rational Faiths, T&S, W&T, Exponent, and Worlds Without End, although I’ve become more picky about who I read. Anything written by ZD, Michael Austin, April Young Bennett, Angela C, Rebecca J, Julie Smith, several others.

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?

No pet. I really like dogs, but have too many kids to consider a pet. Also not sure how I feel about the smell, the hair on the furniture, and baths (for the dog, not me), so maybe I’m not that much of a dog person.

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else?

Bicycle, of course. I assume it wasn’t listed specifically because it is considered the default.

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Obviously Honey Bunches of Oats, the One True Cereal. I have probably eaten it 3 days out of 4 for the past 20 years. I acknowledge that I have a problem, but it has proven stubbornly resistant to therapy and 12-step programs.

  21. Good point, TopHat and Mike C, that I left out bicycles! I was thinking of long-distance travel, but I didn’t really clarify that. And doubtless some people would like to do long-distance travel by bicycle as well!

Thanks for answering, everyone who has–it’s fun to get to know you a little more.

  22. This is fun!

    1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Unfortunately recently acquired lactose intolerance has cured me of any love of ice cream. At one time it was — true confession — coffee.

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?

Both. I don’t really have a strong preference.

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?

10 or 11 for both. I used to be a nightowl but constantly regretted it, and I am a tried-and-true insomniac, so I’ve taken to dosing myself with melatonin in the evenings to make sure I get enough sleep.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?

Yes. I post pretty often, but I use fb more for networking with colleagues and talking about news, events, and articles of interest; I don’t tend to share personal things very often, even trivial personal things. I really like it when other people do though, so I go through periods of attempting to disclose more.

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?

    Sacrament or Sunday School.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched?

    Parenthood.

    7) What is your favorite month?

Hmmm … I’m having a tough time choosing between November (when the leaves turn, you really start needing to bundle up in lovely fall snuggly clothes, and often you get the first snowfall), and February. (My birthday month, and a month with a holiday whose chief celebrations include candy, chocolate, and flowers – what’s not to like?) 🙂

    8) What blogs do you read the most?

Probably ZD, BCC, and fMh. I haven’t been following many blogs lately.

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?

I would love to get a komondor (Hungarian mop dog). I’m completely in love with their crazy corded coats: https://www.google.com/search?q=hungarian+mop+dog&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjbjty2kaLJAhXKbD4KHYUiAS4Q_AUIBygB&biw=1227&bih=897#tbm=isch&q=komondor

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else?

I’ve never traveled by boat! Someday I’d like to try it out. I love to drive, and I’ve really enjoyed taking trains when I am able. It’s a toss-up between the two.

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Apparently I’m exactly like Ziff! I don’t like cereal at all – never have – and will happily eat leftovers instead.

  23. 1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? moose tracks (but I eat ice cream rarely)

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad? dual

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed? 10:00 p.m., 12:30 a.m.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post? yes, 5 times a month

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood? RS

    6) What was the last TV show you watched? River

    7) What is your favorite month? October

    8) What blogs do you read the most? ZD (of course)

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get? don’t have a dog but that’s what I’d get

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else? by foot

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal? bare naked nutty and fruity granola

  24. 1. I’m looking forward to trying out: http://www.mercersdairy.com/#!wine-ice-cream/c22sl

    2) I use the Force.

    3) 7.5 hours before I have to wake up.

    4) Yes, and usually a few times a week, unless I’m super mad and post constantly, or super busy and deprive everyone.

    5) It’s easiest to read a book in the back of the room during SM.

    6) (don’t judge) UnREAL (stop juding!)

    7) April

    8) This one, BCC, FMH, and some shameless celebrity gossip/fashion blogs.

    9) I have 1.5 cats named Circe and Telemachus. I’d like a fennec, though.

    10) A Segway. But not for long trips. For long trips, a gondola.

    11) Granola with cranberry chutney on it, at least this week.

  25. 1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Vanilla, and I will do battle with anyone who uses the oxymorinic phrase “plain vanilla.”

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?
    Mouse. Those touchpads are awkward.

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?
11 or so works for me. I’m usually in bed by midnight.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?
Post rarely. Comment occasionally. Read regularly.

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?
    Depends.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched?
Saw part of The American President last night, but that’s a movie. TV show: Colbert

    7) What is your favorite month?
    Any month with baseball.

    8) What blogs do you read the most?
    T&S, BCC, Keepa

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?
We have two cats, Ralph and Alice. When I was single, I had a dog named Cindy (a.k.a. “the bitch that lives with me”). I’ve also had snakes, lizards, rodents. Growing up, we often had falcons, hawks, or owls (my father was a falconer).

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else? Depends on where I’m going, for how long, and what I’m doing when I get there.

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?
    Shredded Wheat

  26. 1) What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Connoisseur Cookies and Cream. Or this one place in London that used liquid nitrogen and always had interesting flavours. I’ll forever regret missing out on the month they offered grass flavoured ice cream.

    2) Do you use a mouse or touchpad?

Mostly my iPhone, so a touch screen? But my ancient laptop touchpad when needs absolutely must.

    3) What time do you think you should ideally go to bed? What time do you actually go to bed?

    10:30pm; midnight.

    4) Are you on Facebook? How often do you post?

Yes. I rarely post, but constantly comment. I’ve lately considered deleting it, because all the unkindness hurts, but there are family and friends I only communicate with through Facebook, so I’m stuck with it.

    5) Which of the meetings of the three-hour block is generally the best one—sacrament meeting, Sunday School, or Relief Society/Priesthood?

Relief Society, when people share the true, important things. Or Sunday School, if I’m teaching, because that’s my favourite.

    6) What was the last TV show you watched?

Hmmmm, Grey’s Anatomy? But more often, I watch movies. (Elf and The Family Stone last night). (I love Christmas).

    7) What is your favorite month?

    September! In both hemispheres.

    8) What blogs do you read the most?

Besides this one and BCC (where I actually comment), The Exponent and Segullah, I read a lot of tech/productivity blogs, a couple of quilting ones, and The Paris Review.

    9) If you have a pet, what is it, and what is it named? If you don’t have a pet, what kind of pet do you think you’d be most likely to get?

No pets. Something that provides food – a chicken or a cow, I guess.

    10) Would you rather travel by car, by train, by plane, by bus, by boat, or by something else?

I love trains, but aeroplanes are the best for going far fast, and that’s my favourite.

    11) What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

For breakfast, I prefer a smoothie (almond milk, protein powder, banana, strawberries, spinach), but for trail mix (except not actually touching the other stuff), I currently like Pumpkin O’s, and my favourite sugar cereal late night snack is French Toast Crunch. (America has some truly excellent choices, though).

Thanks, Lynette, this was fun to read and answer 🙂
